The Blood Applied

2 Corinthians 5:17

We talk about the blood of Jesus often, but usually in passing — a phrase we say without stopping to consider what actually happened, or what it means for us now. This message slows down on one question: what is the significance of the blood Jesus poured out on the cross, and how does it change who you are today?

A new creation, not a patched-up old one

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17). The blood of Jesus wasn’t only applied to cover sin the way animal sacrifices did under the old covenant — it washes it away entirely and makes you new. In the Old Testament, the blood on the doorposts caused the angel of death to pass over. Under a better covenant, believers aren’t marked on a doorpost; they’re immersed in the blood of Jesus itself.

Life is in the blood

“For the life of the flesh is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11). When Jesus poured out His blood, He poured out His life — and that life is what He offers back to us: joy, strength, prosperity, peace, and a real relationship with God. The blood doesn’t just deal with what’s wrong; it hands over everything that life was meant to look like.

Your testimony starts with the blood

“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony” (Revelation 12:11). Believers don’t have to wait for some dramatic breakthrough before they have a testimony — the blood itself gives you one the moment you believe. You are more than a conqueror, a new creation, seated in victory, simply because of what the blood has already accomplished.
